2018 was a revolutionary year for Kaya Mawa in more ways than one. In April, Kaya Mawa was acquired by Green Safaris, a group dedicated to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly tourism. Kaya Mawa is a world-renowned property for its stunning African beach location, luxury accommodation, adventurous activities and, most of all, its style and character. So, the team at Green Safaris was unbelievably proud of the potential of Kaya Mawa and the wonderful team that came with it.
True to their core purpose, Green Safaris’ dedicated Conservation Foundation has worked its way tirelessly through Likoma Island in search of ways to support and empower the community as well as preserve the unimaginable beauty of this island in the Indian Ocean. Working closely with communities that have been on the island for decades, the team has begun a few projects which are currently in their early stages but with great potential in 2019.
Together with key community leaders, traditional authorities, the district council and concerned members of the Likoma community, Kaya Mawa has kicked off a Clean Up Likoma Campaign. The team committed to this project with the aim to reduce the amount of litter polluting the environment and raise awareness of the damaging effect plastic has to the well-being of both the community and environment.
