The newest dive instructor to join Kaya Mawa, Cedric Gourmelen, shares his story of a fulfilling diving career which has taken him across the world to the habitats of fascinating marine life.
Peace we seek; peace we dear; peace we draw, dream and live for. The peace of freedom, the peace of Malawi, with peace of heart from the people of Likoma.
My name is Cedric Gourmelen. I am from western France and have been a professional diver in the seas of the world for the last thirty years. From Alaska to the Galapagos, the great lagoons of Baya California to the Belizean Caye, the dark Scottish lakes to the ice carved floods of Iceland, the lost coast of Burma to the reefs of Papa New Guinea, western Australia to the southern tip of New Zealand, Cape Town to Zanzibar, the blues of the Greek Island to the colours of the Red Sea, following and studying the whales along the way.
I first came to Malawi in the late 1980’s when thick schools of usipa (a small sardine-like fish) were hiding from the lights of the tropical sun. I come again now to teach and guide visitors of Kaya Mawa by Green Safaris, where the evolution of diversity shows us the wonders of life in the great lake of Malawi.
Come, be curious and be rewarded with what few have witnessed, daring minds to explore our world and to allow peace of heart will follow.
We wish you wonderful time with the Kaya Mawa team on Likoma Island, Cedric.
